Q: What is the Razer Hydra?
A: The Razer Hydra is the world's first PC gaming-grade motion sensing controllers for the PC. It lets you immerse yourself directly into games by mirroring your every movement exactly in the game. This allows for a whole new level of interaction within virtual environments.
Q: Does the Razer Hydra only work on the PC?
A: Yes. The Razer Hydra was developed specifically for the PC.
Q: When will the Razer Hydra be released?
A: The Razer Hydra is available now, bundled exclusively with Portal 2.
Q: What if I already own a copy of Portal 2? Can I give the Portal 2 code in the bundle to someone else?
A: The Razer Hydra Portal 2 bundle comes with a game code to be entered on Steam that will activate a full version of Portal 2 and the Sixense MotionPack exclusive DLC. If you already own Portal 2 on your Steam account, the key will enable the MotionPack DLC and deliver a giftable copy of Portal 2 to your account. That way you can give Portal 2 to a friend!
Please ensure you activate the code you get with the bundle before giving away the newly generated Portal 2 code to your friend.
Q: How does the Razer Hydra work?
A: The Razer Hydra is powered by Sixense, using an advanced low latency, high precision magnetic motion sensing technology. The Razer Hydra's compact base station computes the exact location and orientation of controllers in your hands, down to a millimeter and degree, for maximum precision.
Q: Who are you guys working with to develop the Razer Hydra?
A: The Razer Hydra was developed in collaboration with Sixense Entertainment.
Q: What is the optimum detection range for the Razer Hydra? Does it require a line of sight to operate?
A: The Razer Hydra was designed to be used in a typical seated environment in front of your PC. The Razer Hydra does not require a line of sight to operate, and has an optimum detection range of a 2-3 foot radius around the base station.
Q: Will the magnetic field of the Razer Hydra affect objects in its vicinity?
A: The Razer Hydra uses a magnetic field which is 20 times weaker than the Earth's natural magnetic field, allowing it to operate without adversely affecting objects in its surrounding, such as credit cards, hard disk drives and speakers.
Q: Will objects that emit their own magnetic fields affect the performance of the Razer Hydra?
A: Objects that emit their own magnetic fields, such as some CRT televisions, might have the potential to cause interference between the controllers and the base station. Also, using two Hydra base units side by side will have an effect on performance.
If you experience jitter while using the Razer Hydra, you might be out of the optimum detection range. Also, ensure that you are not operating the Razer Hydra within any strong magnetic fields.
Q: Will there be a wireless version of the Razer Hydra released in future?
A: No plans yet, but we wouldn't rule that out!
Q: What are some of the games available that support the Razer Hydra?
A: The Razer Hydra also comes bundled exclusively with Portal 2, sequel to Valve's critically acclaimed Game of the Year. Apart from Portal 2, with the Sixense MotionCreator, the Razer Hydra is also compatible with over 125 popular PC games right out of the box. For a full list, visit

Q: Will future games support the Razer Hydra?
A: Downloadable game configurations will be available for future game titles. Moreover, you can configure motion mapping to your own specifications, essentially allowing the Razer Hydra and you to play virtually any game.
Q: Can I configure movements and map the buttons on the Razer Hydra to my preference?
A: Yes, you can, in the near future. The upcoming release of the Razer Hydra's configuration software will allow you to edit configurations for specific programs to your liking.
Q: Can I buy single controllers separately?
A: No. The Razer Hydra is only sold as a set of two controllers and the base station.
Q: Can two or more Razer Hydras be connected to the same PC?
A: At this time, only one Razer Hydra can be used on the same PC at a time.
Q: How many players can play with the Razer Hydra?
A: One player can use a controller in each hand. For some games, two players will be able to play with one controller each.
Q: I heard about these bonus Portal 2 levels from Sixense? What are they and how do I get my hands on some?
A: The Sixense MotionPack DLC includes levels that were designed specifically for motion gaming to harness the full capabilities of the Razer Hydra. Anyone who owns the Hydra and Portal 2 for PC can download and play the Sixense MotionPack with the Hydra through Steam.
Q: How is the additional Sixense MotionPack DLC for Portal 2 different from the standard version of Portal 2?
A: The Sixense MotionPack levels incorporate more advanced motion control gameplay mechanics than the standard Portal 2 levels, allowing for more freedom of movement and deeper immersion in the game. For example, in these bonus levels, you can manipulate Redirection Cubes at any angle with the Razer Hydra for more precise laser deflections.
Q: Can I play the Sixense MotionPack for Portal 2 without the Hydra?
A: No. The Sixense MotionPack for Portal 2 ONLY works with the Razer Hydra and incorporates gameplay that cannot be accessed or controlled by traditional input devices.
Q. If I buy Portal 2 as part of the Razer Hydra bundle can I still play the game with traditional input devices?
A. Yes. You can play and enjoy Portal 2 with the Hydra or with your standard gaming peripherals i.e. keyboard and mouse. But the Razer Hydra was created to afford gamers an unprecedented new form of play for PC gaming. The Sixense MotionPack, however, includes exclusive levels and motion gameplay and can only be played with the Razer Hydra.
